Container shipping service connecting Portland, Boston and Halifax, Nova Scotia, is expected to resume within a week, a Maine official said Wednesday.
The new service is being launched by American Feeder Lines, a New York-based shipping company that hopes to build a spoke-and-hub container system along the East and Gulf coasts, similar to the route systems that airlines run.

Container maker Graham Packaging Company Inc. in York, Pa., is being purchased by New Zealand's Reynolds Group Holdings Ltd. for about $1.68 billion, after rival bidder Silgan Holdings Inc. failed to come up with a better offer.
Graham told Silgan on Monday that it planned to accept Reynolds' bid of $25.50 a share, saying that it was superior to Silgan's offer.

Portland will be a port of call for weekly container ship service that will begin this spring on the Atlantic coast, a startup shipping company announced Tuesday.
