Sandy prompts partial evacuation of village VILLAGE OF PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. - This village in southeastern Wisconsin is urging a voluntary evacuation of part of the town because of possible high waves on Lake Michigan.

Pleasant Prairie Global pharmaceutical maker Abbott Laboratories Inc. has purchased nearly 500 acres just west of I-94 in Kenosha County and is negotiating a state financing package to develop the property. Abbott, based about 15 miles south of Kenosha County in suburban Chicago, has purchased 467 acres for $34.9 million, according to documents filed with the Kenosha County register of deeds. The parcels are in the northwest quadrant of the I-94/Highway Q interchange, in the village of Pleasant Prairie and the Town of Bristol.
CHICAGO - Hundreds of miles from its turbulent center, superstorm Sandy's outer bands were violent enough to rip up near-record high waves Tuesday on Lake Michigan, sending a community of avid surfers in Chicago into the cold, churning waters despite warnings from city officials. Wave heights out in the middle of the lake reached 20 feet, short of the 23-foot record set last year by a strong storm pushing down from Canada.
