HOPEWELL - Two sister cities an ocean away from each other have united again for the 20-year commemoration of ties going back to the 1600s. The Hopewell Twinning Association, which was formed in 1993, has overseen exchange visits between Hopewell residents and those of its "twinned" city of Ashford, Kent, England. Capt. Francis Eppes, who was born in Ashford, settled in City Point in 1635.
Now these historic ties and the two decade cultural exchange are being honored by the installation of an English-style directional sign unveiled yesterday in Hopewell's downtown Ashford Plaza. Members of city government, the Hopewell Twinning Association, English visitors from the Friends of Hopewell and other citizens gathered for the event.
