What are the chances you'll hit a deer while driving next year? Compared with other states in the nation, a Missouri driver's chances are higher than about two-thirds of the country, a study of State Farm Insurance Cos. claims data revealed.
ST. LOUIS -- Nearly 600 claims for property damage have already been filed with Missouri's three largest insurance carriers, with more expected after Friday's tornadoes left a trail of broken windows, leveled homes and totaled automobiles. Since Friday, Missouri insurance policyholders have filed 350 claims with State Farm Insurance, primarily in the St. Louis metro area, said State Farm spokesman Jim Camoriano.
The Missouri Supreme Court heard arguments Thursday over the meaning of the term "bodily injury" and whether the state's Financial Responsibility Act requires automobile insurers to cover physical injuries that result from emotional distress in uninsured motorist claims. State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance refused to pay Debra Derousse's claim on the grounds that she didn't suffer a bodily injury. Derousse was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 61 in Jefferson County at the same time another vehicle was driving on the northbound shoulder toward her. That vehicle drove across both lanes of the two-lane road, hit a bluff, spun around and ejected a body from the hatchback.
State Farm says the most common homeowner insurance claims in West Virginia are from wind and hail damage. The insurance company says there were nearly 4,400 such claims in the state last year.
BLOOMINGTON - State Farm Insurance Cos. has received 17,250 claims from Hurricane Irene in 12 East Coast states and the District of Columbia, according to figures released Monday by the Bloomington- based insurer. The company anticipates those numbers will rise rapidly in the next few days as evacuees return to their homes.
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- According to State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company claims data, vehicle crashes are more likely on the 4th of July than on other major U.S. holidays. An average of 6,031 collision claims has been made by State Farm policyholders on July 4th over the past five years (2005 to 2009). New Years Day is a distant second with 5,403 State Farm collision claims per day. Memorial Day is a close third with 5,321, followed by Easter (5,261), Labor Day (5,211), Thanksgiving (4,271) and Christmas (4,092).
A storm that dumped golf-ball-size hail on Mid-Missouri last week is driving an increase in home and automobile damage claims to insurance companies, as well as inquiries to the local Better Business Bureau branch about firms offering to perform damage assessments on houses. State Farm Insurance Cos. yesterday reported more than 1,200 new auto damage claims since Friday's storm and more than 400 new home damage claims, said Jim Camoriano, a spokesman for the company.
MIAMI -- Insurance companies are gearing up to recoup from Toyota money they paid for claims in crashes involving sudden acceleration, the subject of major safety recalls by the Japanese automaker. It could also mean money back for some drivers who paid deductibles. At least six major insurers, including State Farm Insurance Cos., Allstate Corp. and Geico, have begun examining past claims involving the recalled vehicles, which number about 6 million in the U.S. and 8 million around the world. Insurers can request that Toyota pay them for the claim if a vehicle defect is proven to be a key factor in a crash, a long-standing industry practice known as subrogation.
BLOOMINGTON -Hurricane Irene-related claims to State Farm Insurance Cos. more than doubled between Monday and Tuesday, according to the Bloomington-based insurance company. A total of 42,076 claims have been reported, compared to 17,250 that had been made by Monday.
