MODESTO - Taxpayers spent more than $2.64 million to convict Scott Peterson of the murders of his pregnant wife and the fetus she carried and put him on death row. Two of the nation's top environmental officials are scheduled to attend a public meeting in Ringwood on Monday where residents say they are growing weary of waiting for a cleanup of the 500-acre site where Ford Motor Co. dumped contaminated waste more than 40 years ago.
