PARIS -- The Swingin' Bears Square Dance Club of South Paris has announced that John Thompson, their former club caller and recipient of the Yankee Clipper Award along with his wife, Judy, at the New England Square & Round Dance Convention in 2012, will call the group's December annual Teddy Bear Dance at the Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street, on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Maloney marked the beginning of a long summer of campaigning Wednesday in a short speech that took shots at his main opponent, Democratic acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.
Maloney, a Morgantown businessman, will clearly try to position himself as a breath of fresh air compared to Tomblin, a veteran of the Legislature who is acting as governor by virtue of being state Senate president when Joe Manchin left for the U.S. Senate.

There were many delighted faces at the Sweet Treats with Santa event at the Pickering Center.
The Germantown Parks and Recreation Department and Germantown Civitan Club created a winter sugar land of wrapped candy, lollipops and gingerbread men. Santa also made a very special visit. Several hundred youngsters and their parents visited the two-day event.
