Under Mexico's former national content laws, foreign automakers like Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, and Volkswagen were required to buy some of their components from Mexican producers.\n Although there are minimum wage a...

Double Take Left - What course should the federal government take regarding information?
The contentious issue of immigration will soon reappear on the congressional agenda. Too often inordinate fear or simple prejudice scarred the American heritage of absorbing and assimilating waves of immigrants. Like past arrivals of immigrants, some eventually go home, some stay and become citizens, and some go back and forth.

Senators Charles Schumer and Lindsey Graham recently announced their plan for immigration reform. Unfortunately, it is a retread. It recycles the same bad ideas that led to the defeat of reform efforts over the last five years. In some ways, their proposal is even worse.
Schumer and Graham dramatize the lack of new ideas among the Washington powerbrokers. But real immigration reform requires a real alternative.

For the last several months, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have carried out well-publicized raids in factories, meat-packing plants, janitorial services companies, and other workplaces around the country employing immigrants. According to Rob Rosado, director of legislative affairs for the American Meat Institute, meatpacking companies want a guest worker program, but will not countenance a basic wage guarantee for those workers.
