In the spring of 1964, local Southern Christian Leadership Conference member Carl Winfield helped organize a march from Petersburg to Washington, D.C. for Martin Luther King Jr. But a few days before the march date, King's plans changed. He left for Memphis and never returned to Petersburg.
Tomorrow, almost 41 years after King's assassination and one week before the inauguration of America's first African-American president, Winfield will walk the walk that was never meant to happen. At 7 a.m., he will put on his hiking boots and a thick winter coat. From the CARES (Crisis Assistance Response Emergency Shelter) building on Halifax Street - the former headquarters of the SCLC - he will march north 131 miles to the nation's capital.

As the first chief justice of Georgia, Sears must know that those words have a significant historical impact on her state and its history.
As a holder of an LL.M degree, Sears is an internationally-recognized jurist in the study of law. Even though in most countries-including the United States-attorneys are not required to hold an LL.M degree as a prerequisite to practice law, there are lawyers, like Sears, who go the "extra mile...
