Defendants didn't violate federal anticybersquatting law when they re-registered an Internet domain name that was confusingly similar to the plaintiff's service mark, the 9th has ruled in reversing judgment. Section 1125(d)(1) of the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act prohibits the registering of Internet domain names that are identical or confusingly similar to registered service marks and trademarks. The statute applies when a domain name is identical or confusingly similar to a mark that is distinctive "at the time of registration of the domain name.
