John Wiley & Sons Inc., the Hoboken-based publisher, said Monday that it is selling its popular Frommer's travel brand to Google, as part of a plan to focus more attention on its educational, research and professional development products.
Wiley did not reveal the sale price for the travel brand, which includes hundreds of Frommer's guidebooks, a website and the "Unofficial Guide" titles. The company, which has about 5,300 employees total, also declined to say how many employees worked for the Frommer's brands. Some of those workers will probably join Google, while others may find other positions at Wiley, according to company spokeswoman Susan Spilka.
