In a recent investigation of consumer complaining, Bolkan and Daly (2007) found that consumer complaints were mitigated by organizational response types (excuses, justifications, and apologies) and their components (believability, appropriateness, consideration, and accepting responsibility). What remained to be explained was if organizations' remediation tactics differed in the minds of consumers of services and products. The current study sought to determine if consumers of services and products differ in their perceptions of organizational remediation messages. Results showed two major patterns reoccurred throughout. First, assuming responsibility was less important for service-based failures than it was for product-based failures. Second, alleviating negativity was easier to do for ...

This rule implements policy, assigns responsibilities, and provides guidance and procedures for the SAPR Program; establishes the processes and procedures for the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) Kit; establishes the multidisciplinary Case Management Group (CMG) and provides guidance on how to handle sexual assault; establishes SAPR minimum program standards, SAPR training requirements, and SAPR requirements for the DoD Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military. The Department of Defense Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program continues to evolve, and the Department is committed to incorporating best practices and Congressional requirements to ensure that sexual assault victims receive the services they need. As part of this commitment and in addition to th...

Researchers testing the usefulness of accounting information in predicting financial distress have used many different responses as proxies for financial distress. They often compare results across these different studies, attempting to make conclusions concerning the usefulness of particular accounting information. However, comparisons are valid only if the various response variables used by the various studies have construct validity; the different response variables all measure the same intended construct, economic financial distress. The primary purpose of this paper is to determine the validity of various response variables of financial distress by observing the stability of results across three different response variables. Similar results across the different response variables w...

Because the full-sized sliding assault door is balanced and wheel-mounted, it made exit easy for Frair's team. Because the assault platform can be raised, Frair's team was able to achieve simultaneous first- and second-floor entry of a structure in a training exercise via a first floor door and a second floor window.

The growth in the flow of international remittance income in many developing countries has increased attention towards remittances as a development mechanism. This study attempts to understand to what degree labor patterns are affected by the receipt of remittances. Using nationally representative household income and expenditure data for Mexico, I analyze the effect of remittance income on labor supply decisions. I find that household labor supply in response to remittance income is consistent with findings which measure labor supply behavior in the presence of other forms of unearned income in different settings. That is, remittance receipts are associated with fewer hours of work and income elasticities are estimated in the range of -.006 to -.03. This finding attenuates to some degr...

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the Commission) is issuing this Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) to begin the process of potentially amending its regulations to strengthen and integrate . The NRC seeks public comment on specific questions and issues with respect to possible revision to the NRC's requirements for , and development of both new requirements and the supporting regulatory basis. This regulatory action is one of the actions stemming from the NRC's lessons-learned efforts associated with the March 2011 Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in Japan.

Findings are presented from an exploratory field study of the decision processes employed during crisis response. Decision process maps of 15 crisis response events are analyzed, resulting in the generation of nine researchable hypotheses offered to direct future research efforts. In the studied crises, decision makers relied heavily on the sequential evaluation of non-competing ready-made solutions, crisis response decisions were made largely through personal judgment due in part to a lack of monitoring capability, and response activities were largely slowed by waiting for feedback about the impact of previous actions. Crisis management plans appeared to reduce the steps required to make critical crisis response decisions (even a plan written for a dissimilar event). Findings from seve...
