  • RENO, Nev. | Matt Bettencourt scored an eagle on the 11th hole, then held off Bob Heintz by a stroke to win for the first time on the PGA Tour. Bettencourt capped his 4-under 68 with a bogey on No. 18 after a birdie on 17, finishing the Reno-Tahoe Open at 11-under 277 Sunday. After his eagle on the par-5 11th, he played the final seven holes in 1 over par. He also bogeyed the par-4 14th. Heintz (69) missed a three-foot birdie putt on the 18 that would have forced a playoff. He started the week trying to qualify for a Nationwide Tour event in Ohio before he was notified he'd qualified for Reno and hopped on a plane to Nevada on Tuesday.

  • RENO, Nev. -- John Rollins matched the course record with a 10- under-par 62 to take a two-stroke lead in the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open on Friday, and Chris Riley tied the PGA Tour mark for relation to par for nine holes with a 9-under 27. Rollins, who had a birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie run, had a 12-under 132 total, leaving him two strokes ahead of 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel, who followed an opening 69 with a bogey- free 65 at Montreux Golf and Country Club.

  • Fresh off a disqualification on the LPGA Tour, Michelle Wie has decided to tee it up against the men, again. Wie will play next week in the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open, the first time she'll play on the PGA Tour this year, tournament organizers said. It will be her eighth time playing on the PGA Tour, and she has yet to make a cut. The only time Wie has made money playing against the men was on the Korean Tour, in 2006, at the SK Telcom Open.

  • RENO, Nev. - Augusta's Vaughn Taylor vaulted to the top of the leaderboard Friday evening at the rain-delayed Reno-Tahoe Open, posting his second straight bogey-free 67 for a two-shot lead. Taylor is at 10-under 132 with half the field still on the course for its second round. But Scott McCarron, Joe Ogilvie and Hunter Mahan - all at 8 under - have also finished their play in Round 2.

  • Vaughn Taylor successfully defended his title in the Reno-Tahoe Open on Sunday in Reno, Nev., shooting an even-par 72 to beat Jonathan Kaye by three strokes with a tournament-record 21-under total. Taylor, in his second year on the PGA Tour, joined Vijay Singh as the only players to successfully defend a title this year and also became the fifth wire-to-wire winner of the season. Taylor opened with rounds of 64, 67 and 64 on the way to a 267 total, four better than the previous tournament record set by Kirk Triplett in 2003. The winner also broke the tournament's 36- and 54-hole marks.
