The promise of a new year brings thoughts of renewal. In my case: renewing my drivers license (two weeks ago) and my passport (this week).
I also have to get my car inspected, but that's another story.

It's not the way most people would celebrate their 65th birthday, but for Michael Mewshaw, the idea of traveling overland across North Africa from Alexandria, Egypt, to the Morrocan city of Tangier was just the gift he wanted to give himself.
Even if it meant traveling through Algeria, where an estimated 200,000 people have been killed by terrorists.

I applied for a renewal of my passport at the beginning of April. The U.S. Department of State said it will be returned in 10-12 weeks. Not true.
Two weeks before scheduled to leave for Italy, I made a phone call after checking online. I was told the passport would be expedited and I would have it in time.

The cards could be ready for travelers as early as this spring, but we wouldn't count on that we recommend getting a regular passport for travel b...

To date, US officials have issued over 16 million passports in fiscal year 2007, compared to 12.1 million issued in fiscal year 2006. If you have a travel emergency, call the National Passport Information Center to speak with a customer service representative at 1877-4USA-PPT (1-877-4872778). If you apply for your passport and request Expedited Passport Processing, you can expect to receive your passport in about three weeks. The three-week estimated timeframe for receipt of your passport takes into consideration the additional time it may take to receive your passport application at a passport agency/center when you apply for Expedited Passport Processing through a designated Passport Acceptance Facility and for the passport to be mailed to you. It may take longer for customers who app...
