The final seasons of "Remington Steele" lead these TV shows that are new to DVD, scheduled for release on Tuesday.
-- "Remington Steele: Seasons Four & Five" (Fox, 1985-87, not rated, 49.98, five discs). This is the final season-and-a-half of the show that made Pierce Brosnan a star, as he and Stephanie Zimbalist banter, jet-set around the globe and solve mysteries. With help from Doris Roberts.

When one thinks of Pierce Brosnan, the first image is undoubtedly of a suave sophisticate who never breaks his ice-cold composure in the heat of action -- a la James Bond or Remington Steele. But the versatile actor again proves his palette is imbued with much darker hues on the new A&E miniseries "Stephen King's Bag of Bones," airing in two parts, Sunday and Monday at 9 p.m. Arguably the best TV adaptation of a King novel since 1994's "The Stand," this multilayered ghost story casts Brosnan deep into a well of torment, one that produces his most anguished character ever.

Before he was James Bond, he was Remington Steele and he's also a Stephen King fan, a boon to Pierce Brosnan in his return to television.
In recent years a star of such movies as "Mamma Mia!" and the Roman Polanski-directed "The Ghost Writer," the actor had a previous link to the iconic horror novelist through some aspects of the 1992 film "The Lawnmower Man." He revisits King territory by playing an author literally haunted by a tragic loss in the new A&E Network two-part movie "Stephen King's Bag of Bones," airing tonight and Monday.

Many television series are now available on DVD, so I am going to make up for the hours spent in high school or college studying, and go rent me some o' these. I'll start with 1980's Remington Steele: Seasons 1-3, starring the dashing Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist (who's been in almost as many made-for-television movies as Patty Duke-Astin, Sally Field and Valerie Bertinelli). For when I'm feeling a little more daring, there's Night Gallery: The Complete 1st Season. For my funny bone, I have plenty of options: There's The Office, a British mockumentary written in part by and starring comedian Ricky Gervais, Seinfeld: Seasons 1-3, Kids in the Hall: Season 2 or Strangers with Candy. For more serious moments, I'll pick up Star Trek: Season 2, The Commish: Season 1, or Doctor Who: ...

Actor LeVar Burton, known for his work on the children's program Reading Rainbow and immortalized as both Geordi LaForge in the Star Trek franchise and Kunta Kinte in Roots, will star in The Caterer, a play written by Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) Professor Brian Alan Lane that will run in Studio City's Whitefire Theatre from April 10 through May 10.
The Caterer is a powerful and darkly funny tale about the one expedience that all of humanity shares, death. The play, the passion of Lane, whose television and film work has included Star Trek: The Next Generation, Remington Steele, Matlock, Hunter and MacGyver, came about when Lane was 20 years old and his mother, brother, and best friend were killed in an auto accident from which he limped away. A year later, Lane wrote the original scrip...

Perhaps the most frequent queries I receive come from readers wondering why certain older TV series are not yet available in full- season DVD box sets.
Shows I'm asked about repeatedly include "WKRP in Cincinnati" (which has been held up by expensive music rights for pop songs used in various episodes), "Remington Steele" (supposedly in the works), "Moonlighting" (not scheduled at the moment, although the pilot is on DVD) and "Miami Vice" (also not scheduled at the moment).
