Carl Riccio sometimes looks back and thinks about what might have been. What if he hadn't been paralyzed during his high school wrestling match four years ago? Would he be a successful college athlete today? Would he have a girlfriend?
On Wednesday, the 20-year-old Riccio looked to what his future still might be. Governor Corzine signed legislation authorizing $270 million for stem-cell research centers throughout the state, including $10 million for the Eli Katz Umbilical Cord Blood Program in Allendale.

Acting Governor Codey's goal to create a $500 million stem cell research program before leaving office this month collapsed Tuesday when Assembly Democrats shelved a package of bills that aimed to make New Jersey a leader in the controversial science.
Democratic leaders in the lower house took the unusual step of announcing that a vote on the stem cell proposal "is not expected" before the current legislative session expires on Tuesday. That means its supporters will have to effectively start from scratch in the new session.

The four theories of the press have long dominated in journalism education and research and arguably do a good job of describing media systems in the West. However, it is hard to fit Asian media systems into the existing theories. This paper re-examines the four press theories and identifies the difficulties in using the theories as a guide to understand media systems in Asia. The purpose of this paper is to raise issues with the applicability of the theories in an Asian media context and explore a new paradigm, which would bring in cultural values from both the East and the West.

A $270 million plan aimed at making New Jersey a national leader in the controversial science of stem cell research passed the state Legislature on Thursday after a yearlong effort by supporters.
Both the state Assembly and Senate passed a bill that would build a $150 million stem cell research center at Rut- gers University. The remaining $120 million will be used to finance research throughout the state, including North Jersey.

Though they cannot supplant nor replace other methodologies, films can possibly raise new questions, provide different perspectives, and reveal unique ways of knowing about seminal subject, at least by comparison to the standard fare of academic analysis. Each one, "ethics" and "leadership," draw upon substantially different intellectual literatures, scholarly methodologies, traditional assumptions, and disciplinary perspectives. Film, often far better than social science literature, may provide a more "holistic account" of not only individual lives, but entire situations where ethical leadership is practiced. Finally, ethical leadership includes the use of symbols. Symbols abound throughout, thus giving the story meaning, depth, and power beyond simply "a typical feel-good" movie. List...
