Title insurance makes up the largest component of closing costs. In most cases, according to [Bernard Youngblood], obtaining title insurance is handled by a property buyer's banker or attorney or other such individual. This individual confirms with the Register of Deeds office that there are no liens on the property that would prevent the buyer from purchasing it, free and clear, and then sells the buyer an insurance policy stating that no one will come after them stating they own all or part of the property in question. At the closing, the buyer is handed an invoice for the cost of that title insurance.
Youngblood said reform is critical for consumers, especially given the current housing crisis. Citing a Nov. 13, 2006 article in. Forbes Magazine, Youngblood also said consumers need a ...

To fill the post on the commission left vacant by [Phil Cavanagh]'s race for Treasurer, we endorse Diane Webb. Webb, 42, is a former director of government and community relations in the local telecommunications industry. She's served on the board of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and on the advisory board of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, where she secured corporate sponsorships for community functions like the ADCs Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Dinner and the Dearborn Arab International Festival. Our economic forecast for next year clearly indicates that the county will face a gap between resources and service demands," said Wayne County Executive [Robert Ficano]. "Recognizing and responding to the challenges, we are focused on balancing the budget and doing so without raising taxes. Just like any other government entity, business or family household, we are all being required to do more with less. This is the harsh economic reality of our times.
"As a result of the economic climate we are experiencing, the approaches of the past have not been enough and we must respond accordingly," said chief financial officer Carla Sledge. "The magnitude of the current and projected future budget shortfalls calls for a more aggressive approach in developing the 2008-09 budget."

In 1935, America was still in the grip of the Great Depression. Thousands of men were out of work, and families shifted, hungry and anxious, looking for employment and a helping hand of any sort. Out of this panic, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal was created, a series of economic programs meant to provide relief, recovery and reform to our country.
Of the New Deal programs, the most aggressive by far was the Works Progress Administration, begun in 1935. The WPA employed millions and invested nearly $7 billion in carrying out public works projects across the land. Shelby County was a large beneficiary of the upgrades and pay with $20 million in assets by 1937 to show for the work.

Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel owner Shubh Hotels' financial problems have expanded to Detroit, where its well-known downtown hotel has closed because it lacks money to pay employees and for extensive repairs, a court-appointed receiver said.
The Riverside Hotel, known for decades as the Pontchartrain, has struggled financially for years. In early July, lender Mutual Bank of suburban Chicago foreclosed, and the receiver closed the 440- room hotel about 10 days ago.
