At the closing, the buyer is handed an invoice for the cost of that title insurance.
Youngblood said reform is critical for consumers, especially given the current housing crisis. Citing a Nov. 13, 2006 article in. Forbes Magazine, Youngblood also said consumers need a ...

Dollie J. Summerour serves as Pasquotank County's register of deeds. Most county residents - or at least their names - will pass through her office at some point because it is where land records, dating to the 1700s, and certificates for birth, marriage and death, dating to the early 1900s, are filed and stored.
Summerour said the staff keeps copies of all new records on computer and will scan in the old documents. She said she hopes to build a Web site so that people can access records from home.

Also in the county, early returns in the Merton School District showed voters leaning strongly toward approval of a plan to borrow $3 million for maintenance and technology upgrades. District officials hoped that despite stormy economic conditions, the timing for the initiative was right because the district recently paid off a loan, meaning the tax burden will decrease 5.6% in 2008-'09 even with voter approval of new debt.
