Stricter lending guidelines put in place in the past year have prevented some business owners from borrowing money, or at least made them more conservative. But a local banking executive says businesses are still positioning themselves for recession recovery.
Brian Oatsvall, Regions Bank's top business banking executive in south Louisiana, said businesses are in the process of deleveraging, or paying off their debt ahead of time. As a result, they can build up their cash balance and increase their net worth.
