West Virginia officials are working to help multinational corporations cut their railroad transportation costs if they build a large petrochemical facility in the state.
As part of their efforts to lure a $2 billion ethane cracker to West Virginia, several members of Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's Marcellus to Manufacturing Task Force met Tuesday to talk about how to lower the cost of rail transportation for the owner of the facility.

The subways of New York City are my regular transit choice. During time spent in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., I have chosen to ride MARTA and the Metro rather than travel in my vehicle. Rail is a wonderful mode of transportation. One avoids traffic gridlock, parking and taxi fees and gasoline costs.

Rep. Nick J. Rahall, D-W.Va., the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, believes a Republican proposal to privatize Amtrak will destroy jobs and endanger continued railroad service nationwide, especially for passengers.
On Wednesday, after Republicans on the committee unveiled legislation to privatize the national rail service, Rahall said the move would increase transportation costs for everyone who using the trains, from people to small businesses and state and federal governments.
