Each month, the menu consists of a "Signature Box" for $30, which includes meats, produce, milk and other products; two different steak boxes; a poultry box; a box designed for seniors or people who need convenience foods; an allergen free box, as well as other offerings.
[Mary Ciannavei] said that realistically, the "Signanire Box" is plenty of food to provide seven solid dinners for a family of four. There are no criteria or qualifications to be eligible to purchase the food, and it can be paid for with food stamps.
"It's really just to help people," Ciannavei said.

With skyrocketing food prices adding to the burden of rising rents, gas prices, and other costs, hard working New Yorkers are forced to stretch their dollar further," said [Christine Quinn]. "The food stamp data match initiative has allowed us to identify over 600,000 households that may be eligible for food stamps but don't receive them, and will enable us to target our outreach to specific areas and neighborhoods in need. The food stamp data match initiative is a simple and cost effective way to use technology to bring much needed food support to low-income New Yorkera.

If recent history is any guide, few of those departing from the just-concluded 110th Congress and the soon-to-conclude administration will depart very far from the Mall, literally or figuratively. Ex-congressmen find it profitable to join Washington's K Street or law office crowd, or accept high positions at leading organizations despite questionable qualifications beyond their "pull," and presidents from Gerald Ford to Bill Clinton found fortune followed fame (although Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan were exceptions, the latter due in part to ill health). It's probably too much to expect that public officials will ever return to being what the Founding Fathers envisioned and George Washington exemplified - citizens who serve briefly, then return home to the lives they had before going o...

State Rep. Hector Balderas says he and his wife, Denise, grappled with his decision to run for state auditor just hours before New Mexico Democratic Party leaders nominated him to the statewide post earlier this month. Balderas worried that uproar over Jeff Armijo's on-again off- again candidacy for auditor was tearing the party apart. The freshman legislator from Wagon Mound, who had recently withdrawn from his House re-election campaign, also was sweating over competing lawsuits by Armijo and the party over who was the proper Democratic candidate. "There was a real concern that I had about may be being left off both ballots," Balderas said. Armijo, a 36-year-old Albuquerque businessman embroiled in controversy over allegations of sexual misconduct from two women, abandoned his bid for...
