  • Putnam County leaders and residents have lots of reasons they think people have continued to move there during the last decade. According to the 2010 U.S. Census report, Putnam County's population grew by 7.6 percent from 2000 to 2010. During the same decade, Kanawha County's population declined by 3.5 percent, and Cabell County saw a 0.5 percent decrease. The Census shows Putnam County has 55,486 residents, compared to Kanawha's 193,063 and Cabell's 96,319.

  • WINFIELD - A Putnam County man was indicted on charges of second- degree sexual assault, incest and possession of material visually portraying a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in one of 45 indictments returned by a Putnam County grand jury Thursday. Why is the adoption of single-member districts so important? The primary reasons include the following: West Virginia is out of step with the great majority of other states that guarantee their citizens "One person, one vote." Forty-eight states have equal member districts and forty of those have only single-member districts. WV is one of only two states that have districts with more than three members.
