Without entering a branch, members could open accounts and conduct transactions from a remote location that, compared to a traditional ATM, was virtually fraud-proof. It isn't often that kids will go to camp and learn the fundamentals of both football and financial literacy, but thanks to a partnership between $556 million/58,000-member Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union (PEFCU), West Lafayette, IN, and NFL quarter-back Drew Brees, 450 underprivileged kids in Indiana experienced such a camp this summer. CU employees organize the curriculum and teach the financial literacy portion of the camp, focusing on budgeting basics and good spending patterns. That legacy has brought Schumacher, who is president/CEO of $276 million/34,000-member Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union, Tampa, FL, to the chairman's seat of the CUES Board of Directors.
