The paper presents an investigation carried out in an Italian health organisation, aimed at studying the purchasing process of medical equipment at the hospital ward level, and at assessing its impact on hospital ward performance. A model of the decision process that leads to purchase is developed. The results show that the acquisition of technology has a positive impact on the ward's relative efficiency, and that efficiency is further linked to the specific goals pursued by the head of ward and by the constraints faced.
The NCUA Board (Board) requests public comment on its proposal to amend its loan participation regulation and relevant provisions in the eligible obligations rule and the rule governing the purchase of assets and assumption of liabilities. NCUA has received many questions about the loan participation rule, indicating confusion about its application and its relationship to these other rules. Capping a historic and meteoric rise over the last 10 years, First Niagara Financial Group agreed Sunday to buy 195 branches of HSBC Bank USA across upstate New York and Connecticut, possibly becoming the No. 1 bank in Western New York and adding thousands of employees and customers. Buffalo-based First Niagara, currently the No. 3 bank in the region, said Sunday afternoon that it would pay $1 billion in cash to acquire almost all of HSBC's retail banking presence in the Empire State north of New York City, plus six branches in the Nutmeg State. That includes 71 offices in the Western New York area.
First Niagara Financial Group, coming off a major acquisition in New England, said Thursday that second-quarter operating profits soared 59 percent from a year ago, as its purchase of New-Alliance Bancshares drove a surge in revenues while loans and core deposits grew. The Buffalo-based parent of First Niagara Bank reported operating earnings of $71.2 million, or 25 cents per share, up from $44.9 million, or 22 cents per share, a year ago.
If I were to purchase a large parcel of land, oh, around 400 acres or so, I would thoroughly investigate what, if any, future plans there might be on this land. For example, flood control, freeways, etc., that would be in a city and/or county's sphere of influence. Why would I plunge ahead and buy the property knowing there could be some dispute about who is responsible for certain parts of it? Flood control for instance, isn't it logical to resolve problems first instead of later? Why just purchase the property and sue different entities afterward, makes no logical sense.
