The city of Tulsa will restructure its Public Works Department by July 1 to improve efficiency, Mayor Dewey Bartlett said Thursday.
This is a work in progress and we might make mistakes along the way - some things may not work out as we envisioned - then we will regroup, retrain and reallocate," Bartlett said.

Washington Township Municipal Authority board members Tuesday unanimously approved looking into the creation of a public works department under which all township employees would work together on road, water and sewage issues.
Board member Jules Petrosky raised the issue, saying it was time to explore the venture as a possible cost-cutting measure.

On Monday, the Columbia City Council voted to remove the department's Building and Site Development division and make it part of a newly formed Community Development Department. The new department is an amalgamation of Building and Site Development, the Planning and Development Department and the Office of Neighborhood Services, and it is headed by Planning and Development Director Tim Teddy. City leaders have proposed that Columbia Regional Airport and Columbia Transit, the city's bus system, also be removed from Public Works.
