PublicRoutes.com, launched this month, provides step-by-step directions to people wanting to use public transportation -- or a car -- to reach a destination. To obtain directions, a person must enter a starting point and a destination. The site also asks what method of transportation will be used -- driving, walking, bus or train. Within seconds, directions pop up on the site.

• New Hiking Guide

George Petty, an experienced hiker and a New York-New Jersey Trail Conference trail maintainer, has compiled the first guide for exploring the Highlands region's trails, forests and watercourses. Hiking the Jersey Highlands: Wilderness in Your Back Yard" highlights 35 trails from the New York-New Jersey border to the Delaware River, all hiked by the author. Each hike includes maps, photos, directions to the trails by car and by public transportation, trail overviews with information on the area's history, forests and geology, and wildlife and plants hikers won't want to miss. The book also contains a 16-page color insert of photos of wildflowers found along the trails.

• City's Cemetery Mowing Service May Face Termination

Complaints about the grass at Evansville's two public cemeteries could send a termination notice to the city's contracted mower before the end of June. Transportation and Services Director Ed Ziemer said he has received complaints from all directions -- the public, City Council and from Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel -- about the length of the grass at Oak Hill and Locust Hill cemeteries.
