BUCKSPORT, Maine -- Bucksport firefighters were called to a remote section of railroad track to assist at a derailment on a section of tracks located in a wooded area along the Penobscot River.
Initial reports indicate that four Pan-Am Railways train cars left the tracks, two of them winding up in the nearby Penobscot River, a Bucksport Public Safety dispatcher confirmed.

John D. MacIver of Elma, a retired public safety dispatcher for the Village of East Aurora, died Monday in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga, after a long illness. He was 62.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1966 graduate of Iroquois Central High School and served in the Army in the First Infantry Division in the Vietnam War, taking part in more than 100 air missions and attaining the rank of sergeant. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

One person was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after a head-on collision Wednesday night in Westmoreland County.
