OVERLAND PARK, Kansas, Nov. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Johnson County Library, Overland Park (Kansas) was named today as one of six recipients of the 2005 National Award for Museum and Library Service. This is the nation's highest honor for extraordinary public service provided by a library or museum.
The awards were announced today, November 30, in Washington, D. C. by Mary L. Chute, acting director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Bob Withers, pastor of Seventh Avenue Baptist Church, and his wife, Sue Ann, are planning a two-day bus trip from Huntington and Charleston to the new Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, N.C., on June 20-21. The tour is open to the public.
On the trip south, travelers will stop at Tamarack near Beckley for lunch and shopping on West Virginia Day. The party will stay overnight at the Courtyard by Marriott-Arrowood in southwest Charlotte, and will stop at the Concord Mills Outlet Mall in Concord, N.C., on the return trip.

Once again, the Miss Western Branch High pageant delivered a great show under the leadership of the school's new pageant director, teacher Jennifer Bell. This year's crown went to senior Maggie Wilcox, a clogger. She also won the talent award. Miss Congeniality went to Jordan Outing. First runner-up Ivahna Evans showcased her karate skills to music by the Black Eyed Peas. Also placing were Jessica Simpson, Achaia Ravizee and Jasmine Young . Gladys Shepperson Watson passed away quietly at her home on Saturday, January 1, 2011. Born in Roanoke, Va. on October 23, 1930, Gladys was the youngest of seven children born to the late Rawlins James and Mattie Hester Shepperson. She graduated from Lucy Addison High School, Roanoke, Va. in 1948, and went on to earn a BA degree from Virginia State University, Petersburg, Va., and a MA degree in Library Sciences from North Carolina College, Durham, N.C. She was employed by the Charlotte Mecklenburg and Fayetteville, N.C. School Systems as a Librarian, before returning to the Roanoke Public Schools, where she retired in 1990.
