HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Volunteers will have the opportunity to improve state parks by taking part in National Public Lands Day events across Pennsylvania on Sept. 25, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary John Quigley said today.
Last year, National Public Lands Day brought together more than 150,000 volunteers across the nation to refurbish and restore public places," Quigley said. "The number of our state parks participating will double this year as more volunteers, a vital cornerstone in our park system, don work gloves and boots and tackle an array of important projects.

Millions travel to our national forests, parks and wilderness areas each year, with visitation in July 2010 to Yellowstone National Park marking an all-time high. What some may not realize is that each of us - every citizen of the United States - owns a stake in approximately 650 million acres of the nation's lands. In effect, the property deed for almost one-third of our country lists the American people as owners. We'd better take care of it.

MIAMI, FL- Miami-Dade Community Action Agency in partnership with the Greater Miami Service Corps participated in National Public Lands Day (NPLD), on Sept. 25, 2010 at Greynolds Park. NPLD is one of the nation's largest handson volunteer events created to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. All over America, volunteers worked to build trails and bridges, removed trash and invasive plants, planted trees and performed a number of community services. Thousands of volunteers will clear trails, build bridges, plant trees and take part in other activities on the 11th Annual National Public Lands Day Sept. 18.
One of every three acres of land in the U.S. - 600 million acres in all - belongs to the American people. Since 1994, National Public Lands Day has increasingly demonstrated Americans' concern for their lands. The first event was sponsored by three federal agencies and attracted 700 volunteers to three sites. National Public Lands Day will be held on Sep 24. Since its inception in 1994, the national clean-up day has attracted tens of thousands of volunteers to hundreds of sites across America to clean up their public lands, waters, and shorelines. Each year the event helps fix up famous locations where Americans hike, bike, climb, swim, explore, picnic or just plain relax.
