LONG BEACH -- Seeking to continue a 15-year neighborhood revitalization program in North Long Beach, workers, students, city leaders and business owners are organizing to upend a state plan that would scrap redevelopment programs across California.
The group said ending Long Beach's Redevelopment Agency, which uses local property taxes and grants to target blighted neighborhoods for public works projects, infrastructure and private development, would devastate areas just now beginning to recover from years of economic and social decline.

DAYTON -- The Montgomery County Transportation Improvement District will issue bonds yet this month with the county's blessing to pay for roadway and other improvements to the northeast quadrant of Austin Pike, Executive Director Steve Stanley said.
TID officials haven't set a total for the debt issue, but it will exceed $8 million, Stanley said Tuesday, Feb. 2.
