HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Education Policy and Leadership Center (EPLC) has released poll results that show Pennsylvania voters overwhelmingly value public education, support an increase in state funding for the 500 school districts statewide, and support public school choices, while opposing the use of taxpayer funds for private school tuition. The polling, commissioned by EPLC, was conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research, which is based in Harrisburg.
The results of the new Annual Pennsylvania Education Issues Poll showed that Pennsylvanians place high value on quality public education and believe that a strong educational system is essential for a strong economy. Ridgefield School Districts proposed property tax levy is not a new tax but replaces an existing levy that expires this year. Public education funding in Washington state relies heavily on local taxes. In Ridgefield, the local levy funds roughly 24 percent of total education costs. Approving the proposed levy will simply continue this local funding.

NASHVILLE - Gov. Bill Haslam appointed a panel of educators and legislators Thursday to study and make recommendations on a potential school-voucher program for Tennessee, which would allow parents to pay private school tuition with public education funding.
But he gave the panel until next fall to present its findings and said the legislature shouldn't pursue a voucher bill in its upcoming session. The House sponsor of a voucher bill, Rep. Bill Dunn, R- Knoxville, said he's willing to wait, effectively delaying passage until at least 2013.
