After a lengthy discussion, the Jefferson County Council gave initial support to most of a bill making revisions to the code of ordinances regarding development plans, zoning regulations, building setbacks, street standards and other issues. During the public comment section of the May 14 meeting May 14, Dan Govero of Govero Land Services, spoke in favor of the bill. He served on the Unified Development Order committee to help make the revisions.

- Task Force Says Schools Face Too Many Rules
A host of regulations that govern the state's public schools -- including a prohibition on single-gender classrooms -- should be scrapped, a gubernatorial task force has recommended. The state's schools are burdened by many onerous rules -- such as one that requires them to keep a student's paper records for 100 years and another that prescribes the number of janitors in a building -- the panel said in an interim report made public Monday.

Local government officials are placing posters in building- supply stores to call public attention to construction permit regulations. The Evansville-Vanderburgh Building Commission also has hired David Ballew, a 43-year-old longtime Culver neighborhood leader, as an inspector to work nights, weekends and holidays.
