TIMONIUM - The exhibition hall at the Timonium Fairgrounds has been transformed into an energy saver's paradise. Rows of solar panels and wind turbines line the 38,000-square- foot building. There are electric cars and Segways, along with car- charging stations and free seminars on sustainable living.
Trouble was brewing outside City Grill, but the party promoter who drew about 150 young men and women to the sophisticated downtown restaurant walked away from it. Marlando Brannon had already been outside the restaurant when he said he noticed partygoers who had been kicked out of the restaurant get into fights shortly before 2:30 a.m. Aug. 14.
OXFORD -- A smaller music festival featuring well-known bands will replace the Nateva Festival at the Oxford Fairgrounds in August, promoter Frank Chandler said. Chandler, president of Nateva Festival LLC of Newton, Mass., announced April 1 that he had cancelled the 2011 show, in part because of slow ticket sales.
FARMER CITY - In a statement posted on the Farmer City Raceway Facebook page, track promoter Jeff Hammer has accused World Racing Group of "many violations of agreements" pertaining to last month's World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at the track. We believe there were many violations of agreements made, with and by WRG, that amount to a significant amount of money that is in question which we hope can be taken care of amicably," the statement said.
Baltimore city officials vowed last week to sever ties with the organizer of the Baltimore Grand Prix unless the company pays its bills and climbs out of the red and into profitability. Baltimore Racing Development owes the city more than $1.5 million, according to city figures, and has been beset by lawsuits from unpaid vendors since the inaugural race over Labor Day weekend.
IRWINDALE - Circus acts, animal trainers, vendors and others who performed at the Los Angeles Spring Fair said the promoter who hired them disappeared before cutting checks. Promoter David Jackson, 40, of Victorville promised the first- ever LA Spring Fair would bring eight days of "non-stop entertainment" to the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Instead the event has brought anger and frustration to the entertainers who put on the show.

BRUSHFORK - The professional wrestling card at the National Guard Armory in Brushfork Saturday night was real, but the promoter's promises proved to be fake. Ernest Mack Shell, 31, of London, Ky., was arrested late Saturday night soon after the wrestlers who participated in the program billed as "Dare to Compare" learned that Shell didn't have any money to pay them or to pay other people who worked the event.
Memphis enthusiasm mixed with Harlem hip proved to be a potent combination recently on South Main. Tossed together in 10 days with little more than social media and morning TV to promote it, an event Saturday sent a stylishly dressed crowd of about 200 pouring into a South Main loft venue for a multi- ring fashion show.
