  • SEATTLE (AP) -- A $17 million project to promote household water filtration and chemical purification in poor communities worldwide is being funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The five-year effort led by the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health of Seattle is expected to begin in India, where the World Bank has estimated that 21 percent of all communicable disease are caused by poor water quality.
