ENGLEWOOD -- Teachers picketed outside every school in the district Monday morning, as the union stepped up its efforts in an increasingly divisive battle with the Board of Education over raises and health benefits. This is the second consecutive school year that more than 300 educators, secretaries and professional assistants in the Englewood Teachers Association have been working without a contract. The district is one of 109 statewide that are still in negotiations, including 22 in Bergen County and 14 in Passaic County.
ENGLEWOOD -- Teachers will begin the school year with a new contract, bringing to an end a two-year battle between the union and the school board that included protests and heated negotiations. The Board of Education approved the contract, which also includes secretaries and professional assistants, at its public meeting Thursday night. The Englewood Teachers Association ratified the contract June 28.
