This paper shows the current financial situation of Spanish professional football. Different financial ratios are used in order to classify the financial position of the different teams. The study has been split between clubs in First or Second division. We also analyze the relationships between the size of market, team payrolls, and team performance. In an interview, David Taylor, General Secretary, UEFA, talked about sports business and professional football. In many ways sports business and non-sports business are the same. The need to run a business and manage a business in an efficient and profitable way is the same in sports business as in other businesses. The real difference, of course, lays in the nature of the business itself -- the sport -- the effect of the business of the playing of the games and the uncertain outcome of the games.
