The Western New York Chapter of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York announces its ratings for candidates for New York State Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District; Erie County Family Court; and Buffalo City Court.
WBASNY uses a four-level overall rating system of outstanding, highly qualified, qualified and not recommended. The rating is based on a personal interview with the candidate, evaluation of writing samples submitted by the candidate, and a survey of our membership as to their professional experience with the candidate. Only candidates completing the entire process are rated.

Its a far cry from the beer halls of Mack Samples youth where he first learned to square dance some 50 years ago, but calling out steps for dancers under the shade of the great oaks and maples at the State Capitol Complex suits him fine. Samples, Lou Maiuri and Steve Ballman called out steps for the old time square dancers Sunday afternoon during the 2011 Vandalia Gathering. Together, the men have nearly 100 years experience. For Samples, 71, it was a skill he picked up from dancing over the years. He grew up in Courton, a town that no longer exists but once sat about seven miles north of Clendenin on W.Va. 4, and he started out dancing the squares in the 1950s in beer halls along the Elk River, he said.
