The unanswered question in the energy reform legislature passed by the legislature this year is whether it will actually drive down the cost of electricity in Connecticut, which has the second highest energy rates in the United States. Daniel C. Esty, the Yale University professor that the legislation has transformed into the state's energy czar, predicts prices will go down 5 to 10 percent in a year. He cites changes in the length of contracts for energy purchases, more efficient uses of power and the continuing decline in natural gas prices.

Santa Fe police drove to Albuquerque on Wednesday to confiscate two laptop computers from the home of a county employee who told The New Mexican before the seizure that he thought his superiors were trying to find a reason to fire him, because he had raised procurement and spending questions about a vendor.
Acting County Manager Penny Ellis-Green and County Attorney Stephen Ross said Eddie Garcia had never reported his concerns to his supervisors to their knowledge and that they didn't know enough about the facts to comment on his allegations.
