An equitable valuation of a small or sole practitioner accounting practice should follow traditional guidelines and be set at half of the profits for five years plus the net value of the practice's assets. The purchase of a practice is not the same as other investments and so should require continued involvement of the seller for the five years traditionally used to pay the purchase price.
