  • LEWISTON - A man county jail officials in Portland released prematurely Wednesday night turned himself in Thursday afternoon to jail officials in Auburn where he was wanted on a robbery charge. Andrew Bruce Williams, 40, of Bangor was released by Cumberland County Sheriff's Office on personal recognizance at 7 p.m. on charges of refusal to submit to arrest or detention and obstruction of government administration. A supervisor at the jail processed the bail paperwork and let Williams leave the jail, a press release said.

  • NORFOLK | Police are continuing to search for a prisoner who authorities said escaped from a deputy Wednesday after he caused the car he was being transported in to crash . Timothy F. Kearney, 27, of Norfolk had been on his way to jail when, the sheriff's department said, he reached over with his foot, stomped on the gas pedal and caused a crash, then ran off still handcuffed.
