The region's top planning agency is predicting a steep drop in funding for transportation projects in the middle of the decade, based on preliminary numbers outlined on Thursday at a public hearing in Cranberry.
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, a planning agency for the 10-county region surrounding Pittsburgh, said it anticipates it will receive less than $1.3 billion in federal and state money for transportation projects from 2013-16.

Keith Jones, 19, of Monessen, was held for court this morning to face trial for the shooting death of Jeron Grayson, 18, of Pittsburgh, during an off-campus homecoming party at California University of Pennsylvania.
During a preliminary hearing, Trooper Craig Yauch testified that Jones gave a statement to police detailing the shooting of Grayson, an Uptown resident who was studying business management at Hampton University in Virginia.

HARRISBURG -- Investigators have subpoenaed the campaign finance records of several state lawmakers who split $45,000 in campaign donations from a controversial Poconos casino owner.
All of the contributions were made Sept. 22, 2005, three months before Louis DeNaples applied for a license to operate a casino in the Poconos, according to a campaign finance report DeNaples filed with the Pennsylvania Department of State. DeNaples of Scranton is awaiting a preliminary hearing on charges he lied to the state Gambling Control Board about his association with reputed organized crime figures. He maintains his innocence.
