This document affirms the Commission's rules for Access Broadband over Power Line (Access BPL) systems. The Commission also makes certain minor modifications to improve and clarify the rules. These rules provide an appropriate balance between the dual objectives of providing for Access BPL technology that has potential applications for broadband and Smart Grid while protecting incumbent radio services against harmful interference.
FUKUSHIMA, Japan - Workers at a leaking nuclear plant hooked up power lines to all six of the crippled complex's reactor units Tuesday, but other repercussions from the massive earthquake and tsunami were still rippling across the nation. The progress on the electrical lines at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant was a welcome and significant advance after days of setbacks. With the power lines connected, officials hope to start up the overheated plant's crucial cooling system that was knocked out during the March 11 tsunami and earthquake that devastated Japan's northeast coast.
Record-breaking warm weather yesterday and a severe thunderstorm early this morning capped off Mid-Missouri's first full weekend of springtime conditions. The storm resulted in wind gusts of nearly 50 mph, toppling some trees and power lines. A severe thunderstorm that dropped nickel-size hail in the Ashland area also downed several trees throughout Boone County as it moved through around midnight, National Weather Service meteorologist Thomas Spriggs said. Hail was reported around 12:45 a.m., with wind gusts reaching 48 mph.
The remains of a car smolder after it crashed into a utility pole on Northwest Lower River Road early Saturday evening. The crash dislodged power lines, which sparked a brush and car fire. ---
Fierce winds toppled trees, blew over big rigs, snapped power lines and knocked out electricity to more than 210,000 Southern California residents early Thursday. The widespread damage caused by the Santa Anas began long before sunrise, when a 30-foot tree came crashing down on a 23rd Street home in San Bernardino.
Many children out enjoying a rare October snow day in North Jersey on Monday were also stuck facing another, distressing effect of Saturday's nor'easter: the shortening or, in some cases, postponement of trick-or-treating. Downed power lines represented the biggest risk, and even officials in towns who did not call off events urged parents to escort costumed children and to stay far from lines, many of which were once again turning live as utility workers restored power.
An overnight windstorm wreaked havoc on the morning commute Thursday, and authorities urged motorists to be cautious and prepare for similar conditions today as unusually high winds were expected to continue. Widespread power outages left more than 226,000 Southern California Edison customers in the dark throughout the San Gabriel Valley and disabled dozens of traffic signals. Officials scrambled to respond to thousands of reports of fallen trees and power lines, which also affected traffic on countless roadways.
