The United States Coast Guard is establishing a regulated navigation area (RNA) on the navigable waters of the Piscataqua River under and surrounding the Memorial Bridge between Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME. This temporary interim rule is necessary to provide for the safety of life on the navigable waters during bridge demolition and replacement construction operations. This rule implements certain safety measures, including speed restrictions and the temporary suspension of vessel traffic during construction operations that could be hazardous to nearby vessels.

This temporary interim rule is necessary to provide for the safety of life on the navigable waters during bridge construction operations that could pose an imminent hazard to vessels operating in the area. This rule implements certain safety measures, including speed restrictions and the temporary suspension of vessel traffic during construction operations.

Banners are up, a postcard campaign is under way and an art gallery is featuring an exhibit on what has become the major topic in town: the fate of the two crumbling bridges that link the downtowns of Kittery and Portsmouth, N.H.
With the final recommendations of a two-state study of what to do about the structures due out by the end of the month, backers of the replacement of the bridges are stepping up their efforts to convince Maine officials to keep the spans open. While New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch said he is ready to forge ahead with work on one bridge, Gov. John Baldacci and Maine's top transportation officials have reserved judgment until the study is complete.

AUGUSTA The installation of natural gas lines and a separate renewable fuel project involving wood are part of a New Hampshire- based investors plans to buy and run the two Katahdin region paper mills, Gov. Paul LePages office said Tuesday.
Cate Street Capital of Portsmouth, N.H., which describes itself as a national leader in developing green energy companies, signed an asset purchase agreement on Tuesday for the Millinocket and East Millinocket mills for an undisclosed price. The closure of the deal could come as early as mid-September, state officials said.
