Portfolio Recovery's profit surges 30%
Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc. said its second-quarter net income rose 30 percent. The Norfolk-based company, which buys pools of charged-off consumer debt and attempts to collect it, reported net income of $25.58 million, compared with $19.68 million a year ago. Diluted earnings per share rose to $1.48 from $1.14.

Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc., which buys pools of consumer debt and attempts to collect it, reported Wednesday that its income leapt 83 percent in the quarter ended Sept. 30.

Portfolio recovery raises $71.6 million
Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc., the Norfolk-based debt collector, said it raised $71.6 million after commissions and expenses from a public offering of its common stock. The company said it sold 1.25 million new shares, while underwriters for the offering exercised their options to buy an additional 187,500 shares .

Portfolio Recovery's income surges 68%
Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc., which buys large pools of consumer debt and attempts to collect it, reported a 68 percent jump in second-quarter income, partly from greater productivity among its collectors. The Norfolk-based company said it earned $19.7 million in the April-through-June quarter, compared with $11.7 million a year ago. Earnings per share were $1.14, up from 76 cents.

Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc., reported Wednesday that its first-quarter net income jumped 60 percent because of stronger cash collections and increased productivity.
The Norfolk-based company, which buys portfolios of defaulted consumer debt and attempts to collect it, earned $23.71 million, or $1.34 per diluted share for the January-through-March period. That was up from $14.81 million, or $0.91 per diluted share, in the comparable quarter of 2010. Analysts tracked by Thomson Financial estimated that Portfolio would earn $1.29 a share on first-quarter revenues of $108.55 million.
