  • Would you like to enjoy a glass of red wine in the summer air downtown? Soon, you'll be able to. After a slight name change from Bar Bouchon to Bar Bouchee, the popular French restaurant is changing in a new way to bring even more of a French feel to town. General Manager Claude Martin said that the restaurant at 8 Scotland Ave. is establishing a patio that will seat 16 people at four tables of two and two tables of four just in time for the summer.

  • PARKERSBURG Chams Ekelman and Rizkallah Rick Helou greet nearly every customer by name in their Lebanese restaurant in Parkersburg. If they dont know them when they walk in, the friendly brother and sister will by the time they leave. Ekelman and Helou own Chams Lebanese Cuisine, 610 Market St., where diners inhale the aromas of the fragrant foods Ekelman and Helou prepare every weekday for lunch and dinner. The names of the dishes werent familiar to most Parkersburg residents when Chams opened in July 2006, but they quickly learned to love them. Part of the reason for their success is that theyll sit down with people who have never eaten Lebanese food and explain the menu, said Georgiana Atkins, a regular customer. They make everyone so comfortable. They might have recognized Middle E...

  • Donna Sales loves the annual Ribfest South Charleston, even though she doesnt cook for or attend it. Everyone has ribs on their mind, and they stop by here if they dont go there, said Sales, owner of Sistahs Rib Shack, 1717 Seventh Ave. The self-proclaimed Queen of Ribs sometimes wears a tiara as she smokes ribs over a wood fire in front of her restaurant in the former Dominos Pizza building. The enticing smell wafts to drivers on their evening commute. After a rocky start in her rib-smoking career, Sales says she has the process down to a science. Twice a day, she fills the smoker with racks of ribs rubbed with her special seasoning. Shes so sure of the cooking time that she can leave them unattended to run errands and return in time to flip them. Most of the ribs are pork, but she off...

  • With just a dozen small tables in each of its two locations, Tiny Thai seems an apt name for this popular Asian eatery, owned by Piu and Paul Ciosek (she's from Bangkok, he's from Vermont). But winning for Tastiest Takeout suggests plenty of customers are serving its exotic dishes at their own tables, too. And they're spreading the word that Tiny Thai is to-go for. The most popular item? "Pad Thai," says Piu without hesitation. She also recommends the papaya salad appetizer. "It's everywhere in Thailand. DOWN BY THE RIVER During the legislative season, you're likely to rub shoulders with some of Vermont's key decision-makers at [Sarducci]'s, co-founded in 1994 by Steven and Dorothy Korshak and Carole Paquette. But politics is not the reason locals flock - and others make the drive - fo...

  • The 68th 7-Eleven convenience store in West Virginia officially opens today at the intersection of Rock Lake Drive and Kentucky Street in South Charleston. This one has a unique feature. It becomes the only 7-Eleven in the state not to have gas pumps. It is a small lot, said Jeffrey L. Kramer, chief executive officer and manager of 85 7-Eleven stores, including some in the bordering states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky. We usually try to have gas for convenience. Though the parcel of land isnt roomy enough for gas sales, theres plenty of space for more than 3,000 other things. Customers will find snacks, batteries, cigarettes, car oil and windshield fluid, pet food, cleansers, over-the-counter medications, soups, peanut butter, cake mixes, condiments, ice cream, beer, sodas, milk, ...

  • Richard's on Main has a long history. This large facility, offering lots of banquet space as well as a public dining room, was once the home of the late lamented Warren's and then changed ownership, becoming the Frog Grill. After a disastrous fire, it reopened under the new name last winter -- the Frog ownership remains the same. The public dining space here is very attractive -- even luxurious. There's a large bar in one room and comfortable tables throughout -- the dark walls give a comfy feel. The menu? At dinner it's an extensive one with plenty of popular favorites represented. Basically, Richard's offers substantial comfort food.

  • During the concluding panel of the 2009 Buying & Selling eContent (BSeC) conference (April 5-April 7 in Scottsdale, AZ), attendees were asked to name what they felt were the key themes of the event. What emerged was a list of key themes including a need for partnerships, content and business agility, and innovation. One aspect of the 10th annual BSeC that remained true to years past was the inclusion of the popular round-table discussions held on the sunny terraces at the Camelback Inn. Since the event is so heavily focused on networking to share ideas, develop partnerships, and initiate better dialogue among content buyers and sellers, the round tables provide an opportunity to engage in lively -- even heated -- discussions. Also, the conference included a half-day preconference ti...
