Nuggets from the notebook while reviewing some of the money behind Question 1 ...
One of the more controversial political ads from the battle over Election Day voter registration came from Secure Maine's Ballot, the group that fought to ensure the repeal of Maine's 38-year-old law.

The political question of the day is why Sen. Barack Obama can't close out the Democratic nomination. He missed the opportunity in New Hampshire, and then again in Texas and Ohio, and now in Pennsylvania.
In a race that has gone on for this long and with the demographic profiles of the two candidates so different, it would be foolish to single out one reason Obama can't put an end to the race. But it's possible to place it in a historical context. That is, it's not at all unusual for a political newcomer to bolt out of the gates and shoot ahead of the field early, only to come down back to earth as voters take a closer look at somebody they don't know that well and who doesn't have much experience.

[Davis] answered this question by crafting a campaign strategy that was designed to appeal to general election voters. The first sign of this was his decision to vote against President Barack Obama's health care plan - the only member of the Black Caucus to do so. Then, gearing up for the primary election, he proceeded to reject the endorsement of powerful Black organizations in Alabama, such as the New South Coalition and the Alabama Democratic Conference, both of which proceeded to endorse Davis' White opponent, Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks. Sparks had criticized some of Davis' votes, including his vote against the health care bill, otherwise, he was a convenient foil.

[...] that challenges the age-old distinction between theory and praxis, Levinas asserts that philosophy answers to a more fundamental ethical exigency which all humans undergo, "practically," all the time. [...] through bringing the later ethico-political philosophy of Albert Camus in The Rebel into an engagement with the more widely known ethical philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas, I will contest the lasting silence concerning Camus's political philosophy in philosophical literature.1 Secondly, I argue that Camus's account of political subjectivity in L'Homme Revolte decisively anticipates that later expounded by Levinas.
