As part of their bids to become one of the state's new education "innovation zones," some Kanawha County schools are proposing several unorthodox teaching methods, from doing away with letter grades to lengthening the school day.
Administrators from several schools went before the Kanawha County school board Monday night to pitch their ideas. They're applying for coverage under the West Virginia Schools Innovation Zones Act, which now allows schools or groups of schools to apply for waivers of state policy to give teachers and administrators more freedom in schools.

HOULTON - There was little disagreement among the candidates who are vying for seats on the Houlton Town Council and the SAD 29 board during a candidates forum late last week, as all pledged to use their positions to make the community and its education system better.
