Joanne Karr, drama director at Walnut High School, announces that the drama department will present "The Alumni Show" at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 in the Walnut High School Performing Arts Center, 400 N. Pierre Road in Walnut.
It will include a variety of scenes and songs all performed by the program's alumni from the past 10 years. The students represent almost all the musicals and fall shows performed in the theater since its completion in 2000.

A delightful orchestral concert takes place at Walnut High School next week. Plan to enjoy the concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Walnut High School Performing Arts Center, 400 N. Pierre Road in Walnut.
The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

Festivities take place from 4 to 9 p.m., with the fireworks show starting at 9 p.m. The best places to view the fireworks are from Suzanne Park and from the Walnut High School Soccer Fields at 400 N. Pierre Road.

AUBURN -- , 52, of 338 Hardscrabble Road, Poland, died Thursday, Nov. 25, at the Hospice House in Auburn, following a courageous six-year battle with cancer.
Born in Lewiston on June 17, 1958, he was the son of Rene and Rosalie Castonguay St. Pierre. A 1975 graduate of Livermore Falls High School, he married Nancy Ann Leclair on Sept. 27, 1979.

WALNUT - The Walnut Valley Unified School District is holding a welcome reception for its new superintendent, Dean Conklin, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walnut High School, 400 N. Pierre Road.
Events include an open house reception, a recognition of principals and teachers of the year, entertainment by the Walnut High "Rhapsody in Blue" Girls' choir and an introduction of Conklin.

WALNUT - A memorial tribute for Bertha Muller, former assistant principal of Walnut High School, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on June 4 at the Bertha Muller Performing Arts Center on the Walnut High School campus, 400 N. Pierre Road, Walnut.
The school's string orchestra along with the chamber singers, drama department and dance team will perform in her honor.

The Walnut Relay for Life takes place this weekend, June 24-25. It begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 24 at the Walnut High School Stadium, 400 N. Pierre Road and ends at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 25.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour walk that honors cancer survivors and those who have been lost to cancer.

RIO RANCHO, N.M. - One night last month, Jean-Pierre Larroque drove into the desert here, lay down in the road and waited for one of his best friends to waterboard him.
Just a few hours earlier, the 26-year-old Peace Corps volunteer had been debating with two close friends whether waterboarding is torture. Finishing up a pizza dinner, Larroque casually suggested that the three settle the matter by trying it out for themselves.
