TUCSON, Ariz., March 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hitler's personal physician didn't start out as a monster, observes Lee Hieb, M.D. Like Karl Brandt, she is an orthopedic surgeon.
Brandt may be the only person sentenced to death by both sides after World War II, Hieb writes in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons (www.jpands.org/vol16no1/hieb.pdf). When he repented of his association with Hitler, the Nazis arrested him and gave him a death sentence. Then the Allies tried him at Nuremburg, and hanged him for war crimes.

TUCSON, Ariz., March 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Not so long ago, hospitals were primarily workshops for physicians, and both hospital administrators and physicians were working for a single purpose: healing the sick. But now many hospitals--whether tax-exempt ("nonprofit") or not--have become big businesses. Their first priority is bringing in more revenue from government and insurers, and decreasing their expenses. Physicians who care about their patients may stand in the way of the business plan.
Physicians, of course, are needed, and some are good "team players." They bring in patients, do profitable procedures, and follow the administration's orders. Increasingly, they are hospital employees, or partners in business ventures.

TUCSON, Ariz., Dec. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In 1966, the government was afraid that a lot of self-reliant, freedom- loving Americans would refuse to participate in a government medical plan. So President Lyndon Johnson forced insurers to cancel the private plans that enrolled about half of America's senior citizens. There was no talk of a "public option competing on a level playing field.
To entice doctors, the government enrolled them automatically, and made it very easy and profitable to participate: no more problems trying to collect from patients who didn't have money, or who preferred to use their money for other things.

has proved to be a difficult line for the standard insurance market for a number of years. This article will be reviewing the Insurance Services Office (ISO) PR 00 02-Physicians, Surgeons and Dentists Professional Liability Coverage Form. Although ISO has both an occurrence and claims-made version of this coverage form, only the claims-made version were discussed because most professional coverage is written using claims-made forms. ISO provides for the supplementary extended reporting period. One item that may be of particular importance to some clients is the unlimited tail that is provided when the insured retires, becomes disabled or dies.
