First-graders at Neal Wilkins Elementary School in Platteville got to climb on the school's new traverse wall Thursday for the first time and they looked like veteran rock-climbers.

WHITTIER - An expanded physical education program, complete with new equipment for each school and teacher training, is coming to the Whittier City School District next fall, thanks to a nearly $400,000 federal grant.
The 6,600-student district was among 13 organizations in California to be awarded a Carol M. White Physical Education Program grant, which is designed to help schools expand or improve P.E. programs for K-12 students by including lessons in healthy eating habits, good nutrition and daily exercise.

MEXICO - Of all the grants Kathy Sutton has written over the years in her position as SAD 43 health education coordinator, she is proudest of some of the small ones, such as a program on suicide prevention and training staff to recognize the signs.
During the eight years in her current position, she has been responsible for the district receiving nearly $2 million in grants and physical education equipment. Outgoing Superintendent Jim Hodgkin praised her for that work during the district's last day on Wednesday.

BERTIE COUNTY | Six of Bertie County's public schools will receive a portion of a $1 million grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust. The grant will be shared by 32 schools statewide.
The grant will be used to buy modern physical education equipment. The grant supports the State Board of Education's goal to assist students in building lifelong healthy habits.

Tennis is coming soon to a school nearby when the Anne Arundel County Public Schools incorporate 10-and-Under Tennis in the physical education curriculum this fall. The United States Tennis Association is supporting this effort with training and equipment.

Canon Laurie Anglican Primary won the special visit from [Powell] as part of a LIME text- messaging promotion in support of the recent CARIFTA Games, of which LIME was one of the sponsors. The school also won a J$165,000 sports makeover from LIME. The cash will be used to purchase equipment to boost its physical education programme.
