ARCADIA - The California Philharmonic Orchestra said it will protest a decision by the county to end a 15-year run of concerts at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden at a press conference Saturday. The response came after a last-minute notice by the county Wednesday that the orchestra will not be invited back. Orchestra officials said the five-concert season this year will continue at the arboretum as they continue to address the unexpected action by the county, which came without explanation.

Jeff Tyzik, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Pops conductor for the past 17 seasons, has extended his contract for five additional years, through the 2015-2016 season. In addition, the orchestra will host a special Birthday Benefit Bash to celebrate Tyzik's 60th birthday -- with all ticket proceeds benefiting the RPO Musicians' Pension Fund. The special concert, with Tyzik conducting, will be at 9 p.m. July 30 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.
